United Continental Holdings, Inc. announced it will begin non-stop service from Grand Junction to Houston’s Bush Intercontinental Airport in 2011.
The Houston route will be the seventh direct flight being offered to cities across the country. The Grand Junction Regional Airport currently has direct flights to six connecting cities, including Denver, Dallas Fort-Worth, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Phoenix, and Salt Lake City. Houston will be the second city in Texas serviced direct from Grand Junction. American Eagle started service to Dallas-Fort Worth in 2008.Continental has not yet released the aircraft type that they will use to service the route, or the frequency of flights. This information will be released later; along with the date that the service will begin.The merger of United and Continental has made this opportunity possible. United has been servicing the Grand Junction-Denver route for years and has been very successful, stated Director of Aviation for the Grand Junction Regional Airport, Rex Tippetts.With the energy industry in western Colorado beginning to show signs of improvement and travel picking up worldwide, this service is a good fit for the current needs of the community.United Continental Holdings, Inc. announced today a plan to launch service on several new nonstop routes across the world in 2011 as it begins to optimize the combined route networks of United Airlines and Continental Airlines.
