Bad winter, flights canceled

One runway is open at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, where flights had been grounded since late Saturday morning.Airport spokesman Pat Hogan said the runway opened Saturday afternoon. It was to stay open for 30-minute periods, closing in between for cleaning. The airport had not allowed inbound flights to land or outbound flights to depart since 11:30 a.m. because of snow accumulation on taxiways. Hogan said it’s the first time this has happened at the airport since the Halloween blizzard of 1991.

Delta had cancelled nearly 400 flights by noon Saturday. Around 2 p.m., the airline announced it was canceling flights for the rest of the day.Delta says passengers who planned to fly out of Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, South Dakota and North Dakota Friday, Saturday or Sunday can re-book their flights at no cost.
