Delta Air Lines has begun its daily non-stop service between Dayton International Airport and LaGuardia Airport. The flights, which began Jan. 3, are expected to carry business benefits. This is great news for the business community in the Dayton region,” said Jeff Hoagland, president and CEO of the Dayton Development Coalition. “A lot of hard work went into making this flight possible again. It’s good when the region comes together to work on a common issue.

Phil Parker, president and CEO of the Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce, echoed those sentiments. These new flights to LaGuardia are very important to our region’s business community,” he said.Terrence Slaybaugh, director of aviation for the city of Dayton, said more than 100 passengers per day have been impacted by the lack of a daily non-stop flight from Dayton to New York. There are two daily departures for the flights, at 7 a.m. and 6:50 p.m.Weekend service includes a Saturday morning origination at 7 a.m. and a Sunday evening origination at 6:50 p.m.

Dubai’s Emirates Airlines began operations Wednesday from a $3 billion new concourse dedicated to Airbus’ A380 superjumbos at the Gulf city-state’s rapidly-expanding airport.Flight EK003 took off to London Heathrow from Concourse A, which will become “home of the Emirates A380”, and add a capacity to handle 15 million passengers a year, said a statement by Emirates – one of the world’s fastest-growing carriers. The new extension to Terminal 3, featuring 20 gates specifically designed to accommodate Airbus’ long-haul airliners, will open gradually, with just four gates operational on Wednesday, Dubai Airports chief executive Paul Griffiths said in another statement.

“This is a historic and momentous occasion, marking another world first from Emirates”, said Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al-Maktoum, chairman of Emirates and of Dubai Airports. The government-owned carrier is the largest operator of A380, with a fleet of 31 and another 59 units on order. The new concourse spreads across 11 floors with a total area of 528,000 square meters. It cost $3 billion to build.Dubai Airports has undertaken a $7.8 billion to further expand the capacity of the international travel hub, as it expects to handle 75 million passengers by 2015 and 98 million passengers by 2020.It expected the number of passengers who used Dubai International airport in 2012 to be around 57 million.Emirates had moved its operations to Terminal 3 in 2008, when the new complex opened dedicated to the national carrier of Dubai, leaving the older Terminal One to foreign airlines. The new facility will be available to A380 flights to Europe operated by Australia’s Qantas, as per the global partnership announced recently and awaiting the approval of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, Emirates said.Emirates has a fleet of 195 wide-body Airbus and Boeing, and has some 204 units on orders worth more than $74 billion, it said. It flies to 128 destinations in 74 countries.

East Horizon Airlines on Monday formally started flights to remote north-eastern Badakhshan province of Afghanistan. This is the first time a private airline company is launching direct flights to Badakhshan province after three years. Previously Ariana Airlines, Kam Air and Pamir used to fly in this province however they halted their flights due to unknown reasons.According to reports only UN and military aircraft used to fly in Badakhshan province during this period.

The first flight of East Horizon Airlines to Badakhshan province consisted to 44 passengers and was welcomed by Afghan officials and people who are saying that they can easily travel between Kabul and Badakhshan province. However provincial governor Shahwaliullah Adeeb while praising the flights between Kabul and Badakhshan urged East Horizon Airlines to reconsider in its charges.East Horizon Airlines, the latest addition to the list of cargo airlines in Afghanistan is currently serving the passengers using two aircrafts and the airlines is looking to purchase two more aircrafts in the near future in a bid to expand its operations across the country. The carrier is also expected to move cargo from Kabul to smaller Afghan cities, which have previously had to rely on the unpredictable trucking. The airline is later expected to expand its service network to the UAE, Western China and India.
