As PM accomplish in, flights to Valley to continue

Following Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s intervention, the Civil Aviation Ministry on Monday overturned its decision to suspend air operations to the Kashmir valley for the period during which repair work was to be carried out at the Srinagar airport. The air operations would continue from Avantipur airfield, manned by the Indian Air Force, the ministry said.The repair work at the Srinagar airport’s runway would be delayed by a day and normal flight operations would continue till September 2. Thereafter, until resumption of flights from Srinagar airport, Avantipur airfield would be used to ensure connectivity to the Valley. It has been decided that flights to the Kashmir valley will continue uninterrupted during the period the Srinagar airport will remain closed for maintenance for 12 days,said the ministry. The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by civil aviation secretary M Madhavan Nambiar with all concerned on Monday.
